LocalSend devices not visible? Check these four things

Discovery depends on the local network, operating-system permission, and firewall rules—not on having internet access.

30-second answer

Put both devices on the same local network and avoid a guest network with AP isolation. Set Windows to a Private network, allow Local Network access on Apple devices, and allow LocalSend’s incoming TCP and UDP traffic on its configured port—53317 by default—only on a trusted local network.

Check in this order

  1. Confirm the same local network.
Ethernet and Wi-Fi can work together on the same LAN. Guest Wi-Fi may enable AP isolation, which prevents devices from reaching one another even though both can browse the internet.
  2. Check operating-system permission.
LocalSend’s project documentation recommends a Private network profile on Windows. On macOS or iOS, toggle LocalSend’s Local Network permission in the operating system’s Privacy settings.
  3. Keep the firewall enabled and add a narrow rule.
The project documents incoming TCP and UDP traffic on port 53317 by default. Allow the LocalSend app or its configured port only for the trusted private network. Do not disable the firewall as a diagnostic step.
  4. Compare LocalSend settings.
Check the port shown in Advanced settings on both devices and make sure encryption settings do not conflict. If you changed the port, the firewall rule must match the new value.
Scope: these are documented checks, not a claim that every discovery problem has one of these causes. VPN software, managed networks, multiple active adapters, and router policy can create other failures.

If the devices are still missing

Restart LocalSend on both devices after changing network or permission settings. Test on a simple trusted home network if possible. If it works there but not on the original network, the remaining cause is likely network policy rather than the app. Record both operating systems, LocalSend versions, configured ports, and whether each device can see the other before opening a support issue.

This answer summarizes current project documentation. Router menus and firewall labels vary by manufacturer and operating-system version; no device-level reproduction test was performed.
